Their slogan was “Great Sounds of Christmas” but was unsuccessful at producing these sounds. The music and album covers were cheesy at best, and overwhelmingly generic.

Lasya | and performed by

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

The term lasya, in the context of Hindu mythology, describes an etremely feminine, graceful and fluid type of dance that the goddess Parvati performed. It was as a response to the male energy of the cosmic dance of Tandava performed by Shiva, and was performed concurrently while tandava was in progression.

In Shiva is said to have been revealed both faces of dance - ‘lasya’ and ‘tandava’, of which all subsequent dance forms were offshoots. Lasya, the dance of aesthetic delight revealed beauty, grace, love and all tender aspects of existence. Lasya is the mode that defined many of Shiva’s iconographic forms - Kalyana-Sundara, Vrashavahana, Yogeshvara, Katyavalambita, Sukhasanamurti, Vyakhyanamurti, Chinamudra, Anugrahamurti, and Chandrashekhara.

Side-chain theory | B-Side

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Side-chain theory is a theory proposed by Paul Ehrlich (1854–1915) to explain the immune response in living cells. Ehrlich theorized from very early in his career that chemical structure could be used explain why the immune response occurred in reaction to infection. He believed that toxins and antitoxins were chemical substances at a time when very little was known about their nature.

Ehrlich supposed that living cells have side-chains in the same way dyes have side-chains which are related to their coloring properties. These side chains can link with a particular toxin, just as Emil Fisher said enzymes must bind to their receptors “like a key in a lock.”

Ehrlich theorized that a cell under threat grew additional side-chains to bind the toxin, and that these additional side chains broke off to become the antibodies that are circulated through the body. It was these antibodies that Ehrlich first described as “magic bullets” in search of toxins.

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Sheldon Haley, better known as Shay or Shae, is an African American musician. He is a member of the rock-hip-hop band, N*E*R*D. Haley appears to keep away from the spotlight, compared to his band mates, Pharrell Williams and, to a lesser extent, Chad Hugo, who are both members of the production duo The Neptunes.

He states the Beatles as the rock act which was his main influence and inspiration.[1]

His role in N*E*R*D appears limited though, he only seems to give backing vocals to some of the tracks.

Film synchronizer | versions

Friday, June 1st, 2007

A film synchronizer is a device used in the editing phase of filmmaking.

Film synchronizers generally have 1 to 8 “gang(s)”, or slots through which film can be threaded. Each gang consists of a group of large diameter sprockets on a common shaft. A rotating knob on the front, which moves the threaded film through the gangs, operates the synchronizer’s movement. At the same time, there is a mechanical numerical counter which records the amount of film that has passed through the gangs. The unit may have a counter that counts the number of frames, or the length of the footage. The entire purpose of the film synchronizer is to ensure that the film is in “sync” with other reels of film when it is hand-cranked through the gangs. The film editor may have a soundtrack on one gang, which can be read with an audio amplifier.

The synchronizer is used in conjunction with several other devices on what is called the editing “bench”. The film synchronizer is specifically used to track the length of a reel of film.

Both 16 mm and 35 mm versions exist, as well as versions with both 16 mm and 35 mm sprokets geared together so that the same number of frames are transported on each section.
