Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas | christmas party favors

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

“Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas” is a popular 1984 Christmas song by Gary Glitter.

The song is about the fun of Christmas and refers to Rock and Roll music throughout, examples being the lyrics “You’ll be rocking in your stocking” and “Come on, Rock and Roll for old St. Nick“. The song sold very well, hitting the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Glitter’s most successful song since 1975. Though he was still touring regularly when the song came out, Glitter has often credited “Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas” as a song that gave him a huge resurgence in popularity.

The song was included on the album Boys Will Be Boys, issued in 1985 and was reissued many times, both as a single (including a collectors picture disc) and on other albums.

The track was one of the most played Christmas songs in the UK for many years and is still played today, though not as heavily, following Glitter’s conviction for possessing child pornography.

Monday, August 25th, 2008

A spritzgebäck is a type of German Christmas cookie. They are relatively easy to make and require only common ingredients, including eggs, butter, sugar, and flour. When made correctly, they are crisp, fragile, somewhat dry, and buttery.

Spritzgebäck is a common pastry in Germany and served often during Christmas time. During this time, it is not unusual for mothers to spend the afternoons baking with their children for one or two weeks. Traditionally, mothers bake Spritzgebäck after their own special recipes, which they pass down to their children.

Tree topper | christmas party favors

Monday, August 25th, 2008

A tree topper is a decorative star, angel or other item which is placed on the crown of a Christmas tree. The most popular tree topper is the angel, followed by the star. If viewed in a Christian context, the tree topper usually signifies the Christmas Star (Star of Bethlehem) or angelic hosts which proclaimed the news of the birth of Jesus to the world on the eve of his birth. Modern pagan homes celebrate the winter solstice, which falls close to Christmas, by decorating an evergreen tree as a symbol of continuing life, but make an effort to decorate it with non-Christian symbols and often choose tree toppers representing the sun.

R&B group BlackGirl in 1994 and R&B singer Faith Evans has also covered the song live during a Christmas telecast in 2001. It’s the J5’s and Gill’s versions that are most memorable.
