Past Master (Masonic) | Masters

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

In Freemasonry, Master Masons who have “been through the chairs”, that is, who have completed a term of office as Worshipful Master of a Lodge, are ranked as Past Masters in the Craft as a whole, and in Grand Lodge in particular. They alone are qualified to participate in certain work of a Lodge. In addition, Lodges commonly appoint Past Masters to certain offices or functions: for example, it is practically essential for a Director of Ceremonies (also known as a Ritualist in some jurisdictions) to be qualified as a Past Master, or he could not attend all the ceremonies; and a Lodge’s by-laws often require a proportion of the Lodge’s committee members to be Past Masters.

Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas | into Christmas is

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

“Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas” is a popular 1984 Christmas song by Gary Glitter.

The song is about the fun of Christmas and refers to Rock and Roll music throughout, examples being the lyrics “You’ll be rocking in your stocking” and “Come on, Rock and Roll for old St. Nick“. The song sold very well, hitting the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Glitter’s most successful song since 1975. Though he was still touring regularly when the song came out, Glitter has often credited “Another Rock N’ Roll Christmas” as a song that gave him a huge resurgence in popularity.

The song was included on the album Boys Will Be Boys, issued in 1985 and was reissued many times, both as a single (including a collectors picture disc) and on other albums.

The track was one of the most played Christmas songs in the UK for many years and is still played today, though not as heavily, following Glitter’s conviction for possessing child pornography.

Wienie (Disney) | Disney

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008
This is about the theme park term. For its slang variations, see weenie, wiener or weiner.

A wienie, also called a visual magnet, is a term used by Walt Disney Imagineering for a visual element in a theme park which can be seen from a distance and which serves to draw a guest further in.

The term, introduced to Disney by Walt Disney himself, originates from the cliché that a carrot (or other food) held in front of a horse makes the horse walk forward. In the Disneyland park, the primary wienie is Sleeping Beauty Castle. People that arrive at that point will then see other Wienies like the Tomorrowland rocketship or Frontierland’s Mark Twain, which will in turn guide them towards further attractions.

Christmas (song) | is a Christmas song

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Christmas” is a song written by Pete Townshend and is the seventh song on the Who’s rock opera Tommy. The song tells how on Christmas morning, Tommy’s father (others claim it is both of Tommy’s parents) is worried about Tommy’s future, and soul. He claims “Tommy doesn’t know what day it is/He doesn’t know who Jesus was or what praying is,” and he wonders “How can he be saved/From the eternal grave?”

Musical themes

Musically, Christmas introduces the See Me, Feel Me reprise. Also there is a short “Can You Hear Me” reprise that will be repeated in the song Tommy Can You Hear Me.

That same Christmas, Tommy is given a game of pinball, foreshadowing to the events that take place in “Pinball Wizard”

Fir Park | a stand-alone

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Fir Park is a football stadium situated in Motherwell, Scotland. The stadium plays host to the home matches of Scottish Premier League club Motherwell F.C.. In 2007-08, Gretna F.C., newly promoted to the Premier League, will groundshare at Fir Park for their league games while they redevelop their Raydale Park into an SPL-compliant stadium.

The stadium is all-seater with a capacity of 13,742. The record attendance for the stadium is 35,632 against Rangers in a 1952 Scottish Cup match.

Today, the stadium has an unbalanced look about it, with large stands contrasting with small stands. The biggest stand at the ground is the South Stand, a massive two-tiered structure that is given to away supporters. It was built in 1993. Opposite is the comparatively small Davie Cooper Stand, named after the former player for the club. It was built in 1995. These two stands, unlike the other two stands, have their advertising slogans changed whenever the club’s sponsor changes.

Running along one side of the ground is the East Stand, a former terrace which was converted into a seating area. This stand is highly distinctive in that it has the legendary “PLEASE KEEP CIGARETTES AWAY FROM THE MATCH” slogan displayed below the roof, facing the pitch. This stand is the stand of choice for many of the younger and more vocal fans.

Opposite the East stand is the Main Stand. This is an unusual structure in that the steel girders run for the full length of the pitch, but the stand only runs for two thirds the length of the pitch. This was due to a dispute with a home owner beside the stadium in Motherwell, which the club lost, and thus were unable to build the stand across the whole length of the pitch. This stand is also made of wood.

Lucky the Dinosaur | also Walt Disney

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Lucky the Dinosaur is an approximately 8 foot tall green biped dinosaur which pulls a flower-covered cart and is lead by “Chandler the Dinosaur Handler”.
Lucky premiered at Disney’s California Adventure and came to the DinoLand U.S.A. area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World from June 2005 to August 2005. He was then moved to Hong Kong Disneyland for celebrating the grand opening of the park in September 2005. Eventually Lucky will find a permanent home in Disney’s California Adventure.

Lucky is notable in that he was the first free-roving audio-animatronic figure ever created by Disney’s Imagineers. The flower cart he pulls conceals the computer and power source. Lucky is capable of moving, vocalizing, and responding to guests.
