Gtkpref | theme

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

The Gtkpref or Gtk theme selector is a program created by Alex Shaduri that makes it easy to change themes under [[GTK+]] 2.0 in Windows XP.

To use themes in GTK on Windows XP you need to download and install GTK+, GTK+ apps GIMP, GTK+ theme selector, GTK+ Engines and GTK Themes.

GTK Engines

GTK Engines are the library files that provide the additional configuration and alignment needed for themes to work in GTK.

The known engine list is

  • libBluecurve
  • libCleanice
  • libClearlooks
  • libhcengine
  • libindustrial
  • liblighthouse
  • libmetal
  • libmgicchikn
  • libmist
  • libredmond95
  • libsmooth
  • libthinice
  • libXfce

GTK+ Themes.

These are the actual graphics of a theme. They contain a config file (gtk.rc) and all relevant graphics needed for the theme.

To install a GTK+ theme you need to both extract the theme to the GTK+ theme folder and install the GTK+ Engine.

    Stephen Christmas | Christmas

    Monday, January 28th, 2008

Stephen Christmas (12 February 1947- 20 December, 1993) was a 5 year old boy when he became the first patient described to have Christmas disease (or Haemophilia B) in 1952 by a group of British doctors.

    Biography

Steven was born to a British family in Toronto, Canada, and was investigated for his severe bleeding disorder in Oxford, where it was discovered that he was not deficient in Factor VIII, which is normally decreased in classic haemophilia, but a different protein, which received the name Christmas factor in his honour (and later Factor IX).

Stephen was dependent on blood and plasma transfusions, and was infected with HIV in the period during which blood was not routinely screened for this virus. He campaigned for transfusion safety ever since getting infected, but developed AIDS, of which he died in 1993.

Flats (theatre) | It was covered

    Monday, January 14th, 2008

Flats, short for Scenery Flats, are flat pieces of theatrical scenery which are painted and positioned on stage so as to give the appearance of buildings or other background.

Flats can be soft or hard covered. Soft covered flats (covered with canvas or muslin) have changed little from their origin in the Italian Renaissance. Hard covered flats with a frame that is perpendicular to the paint surface are referred to as studio or Hollywood flats

Usually flats are built in standard sizes of 8, 10, or 12 feet tall so that walls or other scenery may easily be constructed.

Often affixed to battens flown in from the fly tower or loft for the scenes in which they are used, they may also be stored at the sides of the stage, called wings, and braced to the floor when in use for an entire performance.

Some casts have a tradition of signing the back of flats used on their production.

Rick Jones (television presenter) | ticket event

    Friday, December 28th, 2007

Rick Jones was one of the best-known faces on BBC children’s television programmes during the 1960s and 1970s.

Canadian by birth, he began his TV career as a presenter of Playschool, a daily programme for pre-school children, in which he played guitar and sang. In 1972, he became the star of Fingerbobs another popular show for younger children, in which Jones created characters from finger puppets made of paper.

He went to have success as a musician (keyboards/vocals) fronting the British country rock band Meal Ticket. Jones had a superb emotive voice and some of his songs recorded with Meal Ticket (Snow, Last port of call, Laughing Daughter) are wonderful. The song “Better Believe it Babe” featured as the theme for the BBC television Play for Today “The Flipside of Dominick Hide”. After Meal Ticket broke up he wrote and appeared in the musical “Flash Fearless vs The Zorg Women” in Los Angeles. In 2001 he reunited with Meal Ticket for a one off gig at a london pub. It is believed he is now based in California near San Francisco however this is based on second hand information.
