    9-a-side footy | B-Side Ho! Ho! Ho!

    Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

9-a-side Footy is a sport based on Australian rules football played informally by Aussie Rules clubs but not yet an official sport in its own right.

9-a-side games are sometimes played on half size fields that are typically rectangular with 9 players on the field at any one time, typically consisting of 3 forwards, 3 backs and 3 centre players. Often two games are played at the same time on a single Australian Rules or cricket pitch. Other times, 9-a-side makes use of the full space of the field when a full complement of players is not available. This variety is a more open, running variety of Australian rules.

A minimum of 18 players are required in total, but many teams field unlimited interchange benches.

Rules are the same as Australian rules football. Limited and non-contact versions of 9-a-side Footy are also played by both men and women’s leagues.

    Existing formats

    • Rec Footy, sanctioned by the Australian Football League is the non-contact game.
    • Touch Aussie Rules, sanctioned by Aussie Rules UK is the non-contact game played in the UK.
    • Metro Footy is a 9-a-side game played on gridiron fields in the United States.

    Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

The Motorola T720 is a line of 2G mobile phones. It is Motorola’s first phone with a color screen existing as different versions for different carriers, a Java ME version and a BREW version, along with the various revisions for each base.

The original BREW Motorola T720 came out shortly after the first wave of BREW enabled devices, the Kyocera 3035e and the Sharp Z-800.

    The screen has a resolution 120×160 with a 12-bit (4096) color palette.

Java ME versions can access the full length of the screen, while BREW versions only allow applications to use up 120×130, leaving the annunciators on the screen. The Java ME version is available in several GSM and CDMA variants.

The CDMA versions of the T720 were succeeded by the slightly-upgraded T730, followed by the more recent V710 series. The intended successor of the GSM variants was the T725 and T725e. However, they have been overshadowed by new V-Series phones by Motorola, mainly the V400, V500, V600 and their variants.

The Peabody action was an early form of breechloading firearm action, where the heavy breechblock tilt downwards across a bolt mounted in the rear of the breechblock, operated by a lever under the rifle. The Peabody action most often used an external hammer to fire the cartridge, but some variations used an internal hammer.

The Peabody action was developed by Henry O. Peabody from Boston, Massachusetts, and was first patented in 1862.
